Chris Jones Jr is a contemporary oil painter based in Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, Florida. His work centers on portraiture and narrative, blending bold color, layered composition, and photographic reference to explore memory, identity, and culture. Working on canvas, linen, and wooden panel, Chris creates medium- to large-scale paintings that draw directly from his own photography and lived experiences.
Originally from southeastern Wisconsin, Chris discovered his creative voice early through drawing and character design. He earned a degree in recording engineering from Full Sail University in 2013, but it was during his final year of study that he pivoted toward visual art—making painting his primary focus.
While oil is his main medium, Chris continues to experiment with pastels, charcoal, and spray paint, often incorporating pop-art motifs and conceptual layering in his work. His paintings are known for their energy, vibrancy, and emotional depth.
Outside of his studio, Chris is an experienced professional custom framer, currently in his third year serving artists and collectors throughout the Tampa Bay area. Deeply committed to creative community and mentorship, he has served as a judge for the NAACP’s ACT-SO youth arts program in 2023 and 2024.
In 2024, Chris was awarded 3rd Place in the Contemporary category at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts Members Show.
